So do all the guys now just have your go-to-a-dance tunes on an electronic gizmo

or

does anyone still lug big albums filled with CDs out with them?

Haven't seen anyone DJ from CDs since about 2005

There was someone DJing from vinyl at the Snowball last Christmas. Awesome sets too.

I know a couple of people who still DJ exclusively from CDs.

Myself - I used to tote around a bunch of CDs as a backup, or if I'm going somewhere I didn't feel comfortable taking the laptop around - but I've not done that for a year or so. My backup playback device is now my phone.

Aside from competition music, I have not used a CD at a gig since 2002.

Well, there is still a lot of music that you can only acquire via CDs.

Mark Tortorici DJs during the breaks of his weekly Dance at Joe's, on Tuesdays, in the Los Angeles area with a mix of 78s, 45s and CDs.

I still buy everything on CD, but I only bring my laptop (and iPhone as backup).

(And if I could download lossless with minimal text-only or pdf liner notes, I would stop buying CDs almost entirely. The only parts of the liner notes I really want are the session details, and if I have the matrix number or even just the session date I can look up the rest in a discography.)

When I started DJ'ing in 2006 I used CDs. A few months later in the same year I changed to DJ'ing with my laptop and never went back.

At the beginning of digitally DJ'ing I bought everything on CDs, ripped them and kept them as a backup.

Nowadays, I'm purchasing more than 90% of the music as downloads. But I often buy CDs from contemporary bands directly at the concert/dance venue.

I started out on CDs in 2007 when I was dabbling in DJing but moved pretty quickly to a laptop when I got serious in 2009. I still buy all my music on CD however.

I have been dabbling in vinyl now that I've gotten a turntable - I have plans of pulling it out from time to time at a dance venue.

The only people I know who DJ from CD are Limpin' Jimmy and The Swingin' Kitten who in addition to their regular monthly gig in Sydney (Jump Jive and Wail) DJ a lot of rockabilly gigs.

It's funny - I have a friend who DJs at a club for electronic music. She uses CDs, as do most of the DJs at that place. Some DJ from vinyl too. You'd imagine that those futuristic types would be way ahead of us retrophiles technologically, but no.
