It would be fine for BPMing a single song, but if I want to BPM a whole bunch of songs quickly, there's no way of controlling playback from within the Dashboard. This means jumping back and fourth between Dashboard and iTunes.

I use iTunes + the BPM Counter Widget when I want to quickly BPM a whole album, and I think it works nicely. I control the iTunes playback using the function keys, so there's no need to leave the Dashboard.

I use the same setup like Anton and I'm fine with it. Just bought a new MacBook Pro and BPM Counter Widget still works great!

What is everyone using to measure BPMs for Macs these days?

I've been usingiTunes-BPM successfully for years - It's a simple tap window that floats above iTunes and enters the result into the BPM data field. Unfortunately it was written for PPC Macs, and my new Intel machine wants to install Rosetta to use it, which I'm trying to avoid.

Got any Intel Mac alternatives? Simple is better!

Just curious as to what your aversion to installing Rosetta is.
EDIT: Never mind, just re-read the rest of the thread.

Looks like if you upgrade to Lion iTunes-BPM is no longer going to be an option since Lion kills off Rosetta.

Okay, I have a new favourite Mac BPM tool. Turnover does everything I want.

I'll just copy-paste from the website:

Quote:
FAST AND EFFICIENT
- Full-featured iTunes controller.
- Tap through playlists without ever switching to iTunes.
- Tap, save, jump well into the next track, and keep on tapping.

Turnover allows you to tap through entire playlists with nothing more than continuous taps of the Return key. And rather than having to wait for each song to get going, Turnover can automatically jump ahead so you can begin tapping immediately.

TAP AS NEEDED
- Notifications when current track has a missing or unconfirmed BPM.
- Global hotkey to activate Turnover.

Once notified, hit your global hotkey, tap out the BPM, and let Turnover bring you right back whence you came. A few brief taps and you'll be right back at the task at hand.

FEATURES
- Optionally ignore BPM values guesstimated by beat analysis software.
- Rules to manage playlists.
- Various notification mechanisms, including Growl.
- Customizable keyboard shortcuts for mouse-free operation.
- Immediate detection of tapping errors, just keep tapping.
- Built-in metronome.
- Several musical instrument “tap” sounds to choose from.

Also has a x2 and 1/2 button so for those 340bpm songs, you don't get instant RSI :)

I had a minor problem when I installed it, so I submitted a question and got a REAL PERSON that gave me QUICK, USEFUL help!! Gosh!
