A paper from 1972 on tubes vs. transistors. (Heh, just noticed it is the same paper referenced in the previous URL.)

I tend to agree with the very small camp which says that tube or transistor, digital or analog, the difference is too small to be noticeable in the real world of uncontrolled sound environments. If you have a 99.99% acoustically dead studio in which you listen to your stereo, it might make a difference. It might also make a difference if you listen through acoustically isolated headphones. Otherwise, ambient noise and your environment eliminates any difference.
