I found it on GEMM.

Saw one in Minneapolis 4 days ago. Border's Book Store on I35 and 494. Maybe I should go back and get it.

Wow this Sy Oliver, Yes Indeed album is amazing. I love the whole thing!

Usually those really fast swing songs just sound like "bang, honk, bang, honk, beep, honk, honk" to me, but both of the super fast songs on this album are very catchy tunes! I love Zonky with its 3 minutes of 270 bpm then almost two minutes of the coolest slinky groove ever at 137 bpm.

The super slow one, Creole Love Call, is good to listen to even though it's not something I'd dance to. I even play that one in my head. It feels like a mourning instrumental or a funeral dirge, but I must say it's a very good dirge.

I want to go on & on about the musicians' performance, but I'll be typing for two days if I do that. They recorded all of this in two days, May 19 and 21, 1973. They nailed every bit of it!

Swing songs with vocals, I usually don’t want to listen or dance to them, but there are two on here that I love. The title track “Yes Indeed” can now be considered my favorite vocal swing tune ever. This version of T’aint What You Do is extreme fun too!

I clocked all of 'em in case any DJ's want the bpms without having to do it yourself...

Ryan points to a link for an out of print Bluebird CD. There is a newer CD label that is putting these Bluebird things out "Past Perfect".

Many of the performances on the CD Ryan mentioned is now on Past Perfect. I bought my copy from Daedalus Music www.salemusic.com

From memory it was around $6.00 - BARGAIN, but the same exact perfromances from the Bluebird CD.

The Tommy Dorsey CD is nearly all Sy Oliver arrangements. Without having the CD in front of me, I can't answer to the exact track comparisons.

There are other threads that mention Past Perfect. It is great that there is overlap with some of the Bluebird stuff.

The tracks you mention are from another Tommy Dorsey release on Bluebird, The Post-War Era, which features later recordings (1946-50). Is there a different Past Perfect release that does contain the material from Yes Indeed? It would be a shame for those amazing swinging recordings to be out of print.

Jesse, that is the only Past Perfect release for T.D. I have a few of the other Past Perfects, and I enjoy them.

But your absolutely right, it is a shame these Sy Oliver things with Dorsey are out of print.

I just picked up another CD of Dorsey's "Yes, Indeed" at the local record shop. If anyone wants it drop me a PM and we can work out a deal. Otherwise it's going on eBay to the highest bidder.

They just re-issued Blues in Orbit last year. I have two copies now. I figure I will give away the older one someday.

My first copy had a bad track on it, plus I wanted the new one for the bonus tracks. However, the bonus tracks were just alt versions of songs already on the album (for the most part), no new playable revelations.
