I really dig Lyle Lovetts non-country stuff for listening. He puts on a good concert, too.
For dancing, I've played "She's Makes Me Feel So good" (124 BPM) for Lindy and I've played some other songs for blues dancing occasionally, such as "Wild Women Don't Get the Blues" with Francine Reed at 67 BPM or "Cryin Shame" (95 BPM). Oh, and I tried "What'd I say" (174 BPM) once and it caused a bunch of women to do an interesting solo dance. And his "Straighten Up and Fly Right" (152 BPM) and "Gee Baby Ain't I Good To You" (78 BPM) are all right too.
I haven't tried "Church" yet, though because it has all those breaks, but thanks for the tip, maybe I'll try it tomorrow.

Lou Rawls has covered that, BTW.LindyChef wrote:Have to check that one out ... personal fave of mine that I've heard by Lyle is "She's No Lady."
I play several Lyle Lovett songs for dancing. A couple from Francine Reed, too. "Record Lady" and the live version of "She's No Lady" are a couple of my favorites. "Church" is fun, but I've elicted reactions ranging from delight to completely clearing the floor--definitely one you have to know your audience for...
