BBC Radio 3 Jazz Libary

#1 Post by damie » Tue Aug 04, 2015 1:18 pm

Hi I've lurked on here for a while this is my first post so go easy. Although I have been dancing a while I have only just started to DJ (first ever gig last Sunday). Of course when dancing you hear great music but you don't necessarily know what it's called. who it's by or it's history etc. While discussing this with my wife she suggested BBC Jazz Library podcasts (you guys may already know about this if so sorry in advance)

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006x41z

Each episode concentrates on a jazz musician and goes through some of the history of their recording career while commenting on the sessions, band members etc. For a beginner like me I find it helps me get a feel for this music we all love.

Thanks

Damie

Edit: Sorry i should point out it covers all Jazz so not just swing but there is some interesting ones all the same.

Congrats on your first gig, Damie.

For those of us outside the UK, I'm afraid those podcasts are not available, like nearly all online Beeb content. They look interesting, though, and if I were in a more larcenous mood, I might try a proxy.
