Ellington Still Popular?

From the 'I don't know if I agree department' :

Ellington Still Popular?

Down San Diego way, pianist Ted Howe had this to say :

"The 68-year-old Boston-born Howe was asked if Ellington were alive, would he be as thought of as highly today as he was 50 years ago.

"No, I don't think so," he said. "You have to remember that the Ellington Orchestra was never as popular as Glenn Miller's or Tommy Dorsey's because they played music people could dance to whereas Ellington's band was more of a concert orchestra. That's why current editions of the Miller, Dorsey and other swing era dance bands still have sizable followings while the present Ellington band isn't particularly busy."
