1940'S MUSIC GURUS: WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT EVELYN KNIGHT?
Posted: Thu Apr 27, 2006 3:46 pm
I am a newbie to this forum and I'm trying to take advantage
of your knowledge of 1940's music.
I know Evelyn Knight did not sing swing, but I'm hoping that
you know of her because of her popular hits she recorded from 1944
to 1951 (last hit with Red Foley).
I know she was born in Washington, DC in 1929 and I know her
discography from 1944 - 1951, as cited above, but beyond a few tidbits
about her found on the Internet about 3 TV performances in the early
1950's, I can't find any other biographical information about this very
private celebrity, and, other music forums on the Net have only repeated
what I already know.
Do you know anything about the Dinah-Shore sound-alike (I really
enjoyed listening to her Buttons and Bows and Dance with the Dolly)
from her birth until 1944 and her career or life after 1952?
If you do, please post and let me know why such a talent just
walked away from public celebrity, never to be heard from again.
I apologize for asking, since I know you are swing gurus, but,
in your pursue of your domain, you may have encountered some
information on this very private entertainer's life and I would love
to know what you can share.
Thanks in advance and have a good one!
