Reuben Does The Blues

Some of you might find it amusing that I DJed a Blues Contest recently. I certainly do, but I had some fun doing so.

You can hear (and see) my selections here (from Eli on socalswing.com):

The contest was 3 heats of 2 songs each, then everyone came together for an all skate.

I also DJed a 45 minute "Blues" set before the contest, haha.

I dug the contest music. If I were DJ'ing I'd probably have leaned more toward slower and older on one of the two selections for each heat but the music was still good. From the video, I gather a few of the dancers are not used to "blues dancing" to that kind of blues music.

... and of course, live blues would be much better.

Chance had a vision for the contest, and I made my selections accordingly. While I love, and have lots of music in the BBKing/JLHooker vein, I wouldn't personally want to dance to it. However, Chance wanted one song of that type included in each heat.

I too am a big Blues fan (Hooker played here at the Avilla Beach blues festival some years back and I was lucky enough to attend).

Not too into dancing it though. I'm sorry I missed your "blues" set though Rueben.

Thanks for the clarification gotta play what the organizer wants :)

Love the music, sometimes it moves me to dance (depends on the music, the mood and the partner) but it's a lot harder to just go through the motions if I'm not really in to it compared to LH, WCS or other partner dances.

The finals were to a live band. I thought Reuben did a great job, as always.
