The rest of the cd is pretty normal, no funky tempo changes at all, so I think the blip in Exactly Like You is odd. And I'd rather hear Lionel Hampton sing [the Benny Goodman version is much nicer to me]. Two songs that I can think of off the top of my head...
"I Ain’t Got Nobody" by Basie, off The Golden Years, Vol. 2. The piece (it's an instrumental) is 3:50 long, and is 100 BPM until 2:26, when it shifts to 190 BPM. It sounds pretty natural, though, with Basie sort of oozing into the faster part.
"I've Found a New Baby" by Joe Venuti and Eddie Lang, off Good Enough to Keep. A while back, I posted a clip of the change. The clip starts from the beginning of the piece. I think it's a lot of fun to listen to, though I'm not sure how I would feel as a dancer. I tend to like pretty crazy, playful stuff like that.

The more I listen to what I call the traditionalists [Eddie Condon, Jack Teagarden, Bechet, Fats Waller] etc. - I think that this must be a familiar arrangement - double time a chorus or two or double time the last 30 seconds. After You've Gone by Eddie Lang/Joe Venuti with Jack Teagarden has the same arrangement - good song to play for the last song of the night.Matthew wrote:"After You've Gone" - Bechet, from Past Perfect's Portrait (CD #6).
