I just picked up the Past Perfect Gold Supa Dupa Sidney "Shoot You In The Street" Bechet Box Set.
Good good good. Cheep cheep cheep.
10 CDs for $30.00 and the quality is good. Yeah, it could be better but it's comparable to other labels in sound quality and I wouldn't hesitate playing these at a dance.

those of us with the bechet proper box may be interested to know that of the three available past perfect bechet discs -- the aforementioned At the Jazzband Ball, as well as Blues in the Air and Perdido Street Blues, there is little overlap with the proper set. i'll be picking up AtJBB, ASAP
(same rundown: past perfect discs will eventually disappear, because they are remaindered merchandise, and they are $5 each here)

That's a spectacular set! About 20 tracks per disk. Mine just arrived, and from what I've heard so far, the sound quality is on par with JSP sets. Also has a thick, informative booklet.mousethief wrote:I just picked up the Past Perfect Gold Supa Dupa Sidney "Shoot You In The Street" Bechet Box Set.

Anyone here have Sidney Bechet at Storyville? I picked it up pretty cheap when I was in Florida - all of the tracks are awesome, although some are a bit long to DJ with IMO.
Plus, in addition to Vic Dickenson on trombone, it's got George Wein on piano.

Does anyone know if this album has been released on CD? Some web site I saw seems to think that it has.KevinSchaper wrote:When a Soprano Meets a Piano with Martial Solan is a real nice mellow Bechet album, probably a good intro to his stuff fer people that are freaked out by the dixie-ness of his usual surrounds..
