Re: Music within the culture shift.
Maybe we could make a list of "Reconsider Playing These" tracks (with reasons why), as part of a hypothetical new FAQ section

Re: Glenn Miller - Your Best Album Picks?
I snapped up this one which was released in limited supply for cheap by RCA a few years ago: RCA Original Masters . Supposedly from metal parts. Otherwise The Spirit Is Willing is also pretty good in terms of performances. (Edit: Jesse beat me to it while I was typing this!) There may be others I do...

Re: Where are the swing DJ discussions these days?
Yes. I like the idea of expanding this site (or one like it) with a Q&A or FAQ that describes some basic concepts, and then links to threads that have explored each concept in more depth.
- Equipment basics
- Collecting music
- Managing your music
- Playing for dancers

Re: Music within the culture shift.
I wrote on another forum: DJing Steven Mitchell's recordings will make people uncomfortable. For that reason alone I won't be DJing them. Yes there are other artist that have done bad things and sing appalling lyrics that represent outdated ideas, but I think we can appreciate them as being anachron...

Re: Where are the swing DJ discussions these days?
You may be right nonamejiver, and it would be easy to set one up, but there seems to be a lot of these kinds of pages and groups already. None of them really have any traction, despite sizeable memberships, and I'm not sure an emphasis on polls is the fix.
Still thinking about this...

Re: Where are the swing DJ discussions these days?
but I don't have neither the fancy equipment nor the great software to seriously start DJing and I don't really know where to start... :? Let me be the first to say that you don't actually need any fancy equipment, just a bit knowledge and enthusiasm for swing music. I have been DJing for 10 years ...

Re: Where are the swing DJ discussions these days?
I get that other platforms are getting the share of attention - that makes sense. I see lots of dance clips getting shared and discussions on social issues around dancing on Facebook quite frequently: the discussion happens where the people already are, rather than them choosing to seek out material...

Where are the swing DJ discussions these days?
I love this forum. It's a great place to truly nerd-out on swing music and DJing for dancers - and for those conversations to remain as a valuable archive for others to discover at a later date. But I feel like it's been a little quiet lately (with the exception of this guy ). From what I can tell, ...

Re: New Year's Music
Auld Lang Syne by the Kings of Dixieland is tolerable.
Happy New Year Baby by Lem Tally & Cathy Cooper is a Rhythm & Blues number that works.
That's about all I've got.

DJay Pro fro Mac
DJay Pro for Mac was released yesterday with a lot of publicity: http://www.algoriddim.com/djay-mac
Has anyone checked it out yet in terms of suitability for Swing DJing?
Earlier versions of DJay we're not quite right for me, but this might fit the bill better.

Re: mosaic sets
Honestly, it's generational I think, but I don't know what most music listeners use for a home sound system these days. Back in my day (hahaha) we were all about speakers and amps and turntables and receivers and equalizers and pre-amps and what not. Is that all gone? Not generational at all. Music...
