Re: 7digital and buying FLACs
The fact that they sell one thing that is obviously shady makes me not feel super confident about the rest of it. That Goodman Mosaic set is listed as being released by "Lilith Records", which is a Russian reissue label. It's a pretty blatant ripoff. It's of course possible 7digital has no...

Re: 7digital and buying FLACs
That was me posting that. It was in reply to someone giving a link to a Benny Goodman Mosaic set for sale on that site (or the German version thereof, at least) for 7.49 euro (!). Why illegal in the US: because things take a lot longer to enter public domain here, which means artists (or their estat...

Re: Song with a lot of hard breaks/pauses
I don't have any ideas right now, I'm afraid, but can you give us any more information?
Is it big band?
Does it sound like a recent recording?
Does it have any vocals?
Any instrumental solos that stand out? If so, what instrument?
Is it AABA form?

Re: songs with very clear AAAB phrases
One thing that comes to mind is "They Can't Take that away from Me". The lyrics make it particularly easy for beginners to tell what's going on: (A) The way you wear your hat (A) The way you sip your tea (A) The memory of all that (B) No, no they can't take that away from me (A) The way yo...

Re: Name of the Song (Solved) "Girl of My Dreams"
Yup, thank you! We used to try and have it be "[Answered] Song Title, Artist Name", but we haven't actually been doing that... It's super handy when browsing the archive, though.

I cannot access the original link--the shared folder was deleted (or permissions were removed), so I think this thread is dead--yes? No? Maybe?

Re: Lindyhopper's Delight
If you had remembered the proper term, I wouldn't have cared about your post, but now that it's just slightly vague, I am incredibly intrigued by it.

Re: What's the name of that song?
I don't recognize the song, but, for future, reference, you can include a timestamp in your YouTube URLs, which will avoid confusion. add "&t=5m00s" at the end to start straight at the 5:00 mark.

Re: Lindyhopper's Delight
I think the next two questions to ask (and answer) are: 1) does this happen in other parts of LHD? 2) does it happen in other big band recordings of the era? A good place to start is with other uptempo pieces by Ella & Her Famous Orchestra. (I only have uninformed amateur hunches, no definitive ...

Re: Count Basie - One O'Clock Jump - Repeat New Under-Riff
Well, aren't you lucky that I only have about ten versions of OOJ that clock in close enough to 3:53 to be serious candidates? This is almost certainly the session: Blue Room, Hotel Lincoln, New York, May 13, 1944 Ed Lewis, Al Killian, Harry Edison, Joe Newman (tp), Dickie Wells, Ted Donnelly, Eli R...
