I'm seeing my dad this weekend and one of the things we are doing is editing some more music samples for another lecture he is doing on Louis Armstrong for the 'summer Satchmo fest' in New Orleans (BTW, this is a terrific event with lots of free trad jazz (outdoors), jazz in clubs, lectures, parties...

So he felt your Dad set the swing repetoire, at least what was available from Columbia. I'd be interested in your take on this. I'd agree. If you read the downbeat lifetime achievement award presentation I linked to (above), I believe the author considers this one of the 5 major contributions my da...

I don't know about that. I don't think the intro is repeated again. Maybe we have different versions. It's no big deal anyway, in the wider scheme of the thread. I'm not 100% sure, but I think there's only one studio version by Glenn Miller. That's the popular version used by minnie's mochers/mad d...

Agree on both counts. These days, I take fewer gig's where I have to compromise. I am very grateful that after starting the first Lindy dance in Philly and then giving it to someone else I am now the house DJ at a new dance that I didn't have to start. On the other hand, the other weekly dance has g...

Do those who play authentic Swing era recordings have this problem? Curious! One leaves the Swing era recordings on the side and plays recordings from another era for Swing dancers and suddenly they require editing so that people can dance to them. Wow! I didn't know there were fake recordings that...

If I wasn't afraid they'd play it for our dancers I'd temporarily load my system with crap just to see them grab it like the plot from some cheesy sci-fi movie where the hero uploads some computer virus that causes the evil computer system to overload and implode just before the closing credits. Bi...

Well, I don't feel jealous of traders. Although I do admire DJs who know more about their music than me, so I might be jealous of Jesse, Rayned or Shortydave for instance. While I absolutely regret purchases that I have made, I do not regret the process that I have gone through. And, as I said befor...
