Hi Jonas, I'm not going this year but some of my friends are. I may be able to give them some stuff for you - unless of course Russell or Bob are heading that way anyway... Hey, too bad you're not coming, but there are other things to do in life than Herräng I guess, not mentioning what you could d...

Great Set Russell. I so like it, when I have to come over to the computer to find out how is the artist on the playing track. Very exciting set. It's so nice to have some thing different, and not same old. Well put together show. Brian Yep, I second that, and I particularly enjoyed the first part w...

It's nice but not super - I had many of the tracks before and the sound is not a great improvement. After some further listening, I have to correct myself here - many of the tracks sound much better... Stop teasing me, it's a lot of money getting that set from the States, but I just gotta have it s...

Anyway, joining two threads here, when I came to track 25 on disc 1 - "Swing Is Here" by Gene Krupa's Swing Band (available on many other collections as well) - I thought I recognized the riff starting at 2:20. It's actually quite similar to the riff heard in the Keep On Punchin clip. A f...

We had a guy who spun 78:s on a dance night in Stockholm this spring, with a beautiful turntable, phono pre-amp, and crates of records. Once the initial "coolness" factor faded away, about ten minutes after he started playing, all I wanted was good music, regardless of the source, and sinc...

Then please send a lot of copies with someone who's going to Herräng Dance Camp in July, we'll be lining up in front of the Lindy Hop Shop for the release... :-)

Re: Shanghai Shuffle

Anyone know of any GREAT versions of this you would spin other than Fletcher's on "Tidal Wave"? Yes, I know the Wolverines did a rendition. Ryan, since you like Henderson's 1934 version (as do I), there's a good chance you'll also like Buster Bailey's 1934 version off of " Sounds of ...

Re: Jimmie Lunceford

I'm looking to get into the Jimmie Lunceford business, and I'd like to get the most and best music for the least money. Could you recommend some CDs? Thanks. Well, Matthew, it's been more than three years since you asked for material, and got great advice from the guys above, so I guess you have a ...

Jazz Hour just added a lot of broadcast albums to the European branch of eMusic, and one of them is Ina Ray Hutton's " 1943-1944 Spotlight Band Broadcasts ". I'll report back when I've listened to the 30 sec clips... Nothing that really excited me, except for a fairly heated rendition of ...

http://www.schicker.tv/ebaypiconline/060604_lp/shaw.JPG Ah, John, now I need to get me a player for 78's/45's/33 1/3's as well, don't tease me please :) I really am on the cd route only right now (for convenience), but if there are readily avilable LP's with much better transfers than the readily a...

Re: Artie Shaw - Self Portrait

[...] I guess I don't understand either why you wouldn't DJ more of them. Do folks in Uppsala tend to dance to groovier or slower music? At least in Seattle, when I feel I need to bring some "lindy-hop" music and up the energy, if I turn to G5 or the 1938 CD I'm set. [...] We don't really...

Re: Artie Shaw - Self Portrait

[...] The sound is a little sketchy on the radio broadcasts on both the 1938 CD and the tracks on Self Portrait that are from the radio, but it's because it was recorded live. I love the tracks where the at the end the radio broadcaster does a speak over "Coming to you live from the Hotel Linc...

eMusic just added a bunch of Jazz Hour broadcast albums, at least to the European branch.

Maybe I'll find some gems among the vast supply of for instance Woody Herman, Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman, Harry James and Glenn Miller albums, among others.
