Well, that's annoying--Amazon.com put up sound samples and put up the wrong sound samples. The player plays the slow one.

(Never have seen this set drop to my one-track price, but was really excited to finally hear a clear clip. Bummer.)

I know of a US-based band that recorded one of its performances at a swing dance, and could easily burn CDs of the tracks at home if necessary, but has not released it on iTunes and such places where one can easily be caught for releasing. The reason is that they don't think the recording would make...

I think there's a web site or two you log into, make the request, pay money by credit card, & wait for a reply. Or something like that.

Nope--just make it make me want to swing dance.

Maybe burn a mix CD of some songs that people love dancing to (old or new) for the engineer and hope that s/he's got a great ear & some natural talent.

Y'know, this thread keeps popping into my head every couple of days, and I always change my mind about what I want to say. But for now, I'll say the most recent thoughts I had (while listening to a Chick Webb box set w/ poor sound quality that I just got): 1. Learning to play lindy hoppers' favorite...

Don't forget how many non-jazz bands probably existed at the time.
Movie music, show music, other random pop-but-not-jazz...maybe that's what people are getting at by them meaning "hot" for jazz (whether sappy or not) and "sweet" for non-jazz sappy things?

Just heard a version w/ great energy in a bar: Pee Wee Hunt (album: "Twelfth Street Rag") . A lot of the album is, well, old-timey, like you'd expect something called "Twelfth Street Rag." But this cut of "Sunny Side" is less trad and more swingey, and it's upper-mid-te...

I wish I knew, Fredo! :? All of the things you mentioned sound reasonable, but I don't have a great musical ear, so I don't know. Anyway, now one other person on this planet has said, "I heard what you're saying you heard," so I'm content--I can sit back and just read the reviews now. =)

I like it. I can see how it would get lots of people dancing. But one question... Am I the only big band lover on this board who thinks it feels a little trad-jazz-ish / 20's-band-ish to be going on and on and on about how big-band-ey the album sounds? (Yeah, I know that numbers-wise, the band is bi...

My advice is not to do a short-research-duration research paper on a single solo or single song. That's, like, a years-long project to get to a point of actually having something good to say. Unless you've already got those years behind you...but if you did, my guess is that you probably wouldn't ha...

Re: Need Help Finding a Song

I have an MP3 that I think I've miss-labeled. I need help identifing the song and artist and album. I've checked all CD collection, including compilations and no luck. I've searched online for the song as titled with different artists. Bottom line is : I don't think the title I'm searching for and ...

Y'know what? Come to think of it, one of my favorite tracks is one I never managed to track down after all I got was a title & artist. (And it too was seen on web video being danced to by Harlem Hot Shot members!) I came really close. The performance was close enough that I stopped searching. Bu...
