On my mac, I am now using iTunes and the system audio out to send to the speakers and Cog (with a USB soundcard) if the need arises to preview . . . http://cogx.org/ After using DJ1800 for a couple of years, I was getting more and more audio drops. This is exactly the combination I'm experimenting ...

I've found a few good songs from the soundtracks of Deadwood and Carnivale . Deadwood 's a bit early (in terms of setting) for music for lindy, but I have found quite a few really good early blues type songs for blues dancing. Generally pretty 'rustic' and gritty - sparse instrumentation and rougher...

I like the version by Cootie Williams And His Rug Cutters (1937) which you can find on The Duke's Men: Small Groups Vol. 1 (Disc 1). I'm pretty certain that it's actually the session you mentioned first, Brian:

I turn off all the other programs but DJ1800 to save battery and efficiency I understand efficiency, but battery, meaning running without a power supply? Isn't that just asking for trouble from the memory charge fairy? "Remember Cinderella, be home before twelve. At the magic stroke of midnigh...

I wasn't sure whether I should start a new thread for this or not, but... The other night I heard a DJ play a really great version of "Blues in Hoss's Flat". It was definitely Basie playing, was live and a bit more uptempo than the usual version you hear. It had that whole 50s Basie thing ...

Re: from 0 to preview in 60 sec

I can't believe you bring anything Sennheiser for DJing (even cheap ones are expensive). They are great headphones, and you have good taste, :) but why burn them out and put them through the wear and tear? They're literally the only headphones I own - and were a present. I've only just discovered h...

Re: from 0 to preview in 60 sec

any tips from other djs who have made the switch from non-preview djing, to preview djing, would be a great help. Not so much a tip... I've just started previewing as well (I've only been DJing about 18months). I started using headphones + external soundcard (+itunes and DJ1800) at an exchange a fe...

When we're organising MLX we see about 2 DJs using CDs from a pool of 10 or 12 DJs. It's not a problem to hook up a CD player (or 2) for these guys - we're already bringing in all the sound gear and lighting and furniture and... We want the DJs to do the best job they can, so we're happy to fascilit...

I ride my bike to most of my DJing gigs, otherwise I'm on the tram with a zillion Friday night party-goers. Laptop bag on my back v crate of LPs on my bike's parcel rack? I just know I'd have a massive stack right in the middle of a busy intersection and see all that lovely vinyl smashed up...

I try to play music by local (and contemporary) artists when I'm DJing - and I make sure I tell people what I'm playing (by posting my set lists on our Australian Swing Talk discussion board , mentioning that a song is by a local artist when people ask, etc). I'm a fan of old scratchy stuff, so it c...

I've picked up DJ1800 since I last posted in this thread, and on the weekend I did a few sets at (the very excellently excellent fun) Hullabaloo in Perth using headphones to preview! I didn't intend to at first, but decided (mid-way through a disastrous blues set on the Friday) that I might try some...

Melbourne Lindy Exchange - 22-25 November 2007

Just a heads up thread to let you all know that the seventh annual Melbourne Lindy Exchange will be on again in November, in Melbourne Australia. We like to let international guests know earlier so they can get onto the flight booking thing ASAP. The last couple of years have seen the MJDA (Melbourn...

Hey, thanks for the tips, guys.
My partner has been making some scriptage but I'll check out these ones. I'm also stalking a turtle beach thingy on ebay for $19 (I'd like to look at CompUSA but the closest is probably a bit of a hike from Melbourne ;) ).
